Residential Program - Frequently Asked Questions

These FAQs cover some of the most common program questions we receive about our 12-month residential recovery program. If you have a more specific question or need further clarification, we’re here to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Admissions Office at admissions@atcnew.com.

General Admissions & Financial Assistance

How do I apply to Adult & Teen Challenge Northeastern Wisconsin (ATCNEW)?

To begin the admissions process, you can:

How long does the application process take?

Admissions typically complete within 24 hours to 2 weeks, depending on availability, funding verification, legal status, and other factors.

What is the cost of your program?

Costs vary depending on personal finances and personal support. Our Faith-Based 12-month recovery program is not insurance-covered, but financial assistance may be available.

What ages do you accept?

Adults: 18+ (Currently Men Only)

Do you accept my insurance?

12-Month Faith-Based Program: Not insurance-covered.

Legal & Eligibility Questions

Can I enter the program with pending court dates or charges?

Yes—pending legal issues are reviewed case-by-case.

Is there a waiting list?

Yes, occasionally, admission is based on bed availability. Contact our admissions office to check availability.

Program Policies & Daily Life

Can I work or attend school while in the program?

No, not during the residential treatment phase. Focus is prioritized on recovery. In the final phase of the recovery program, transition planning will include securing full-time employment or enrolling in school.

Will I be able to use my devices?

We provide structured phone times each day for you to stay connected. However, personal devices like cell phones, tablets, and other electronics are not permitted during the program for your focus and growth.

Are you a smoke-free facility?

Yes—we are tobacco-free. If needed, Nicotine patches are permitted at intake up to a 90-day tapering off completely.

Is this a lockdown facility

No, ATCNEW is not a lockdown facility. We secure our facility externally from outsiders, but program participants are voluntary and can discharge from the program at will.

What personal expenses should I plan for?

Clients may bring funds for hygiene items, occasional snacks, or program store runs.

Are there fitness facilities?

Yes—our facility offers access to a gym with cardio and workout equipment. 

Transportation & Communication

Do you provide transportation services?

Court, medical, mental health, and dental transports? Yes, within a 15-mile radius.

Appointments outside that range are considered case-by-case or will require family transportation support.

Can I bring my vehicle?

NO. Since program transportation is provided for all essential needs, please arrange for drop-off and pick-up. Resident vehicles are not allowed on-site.

Is phone use allowed?

Yes—no calling cards required; phones provided. Access is structured, and family contact is encouraged. 

Visitors & Passes

How many visitors can I have and when?

Weekly Visitations are provided and communicated. All visits must be approved in advance by program staff.

Can I have video calls with my children?

Yes—those with minor children will be allowed weekly tablet access to have video calls.

Can I attend family events—weddings, funerals, births?

Yes—on a case-by-case basis for significant life events like births or funerals.

Can I stay overnight with my spouse?

Yes—under certain circumstances and program approval. 

Special Client Needs & Inclusivity

Do clients need to be Christian?

No. While our faith-based program enrollment doesn’t require being Christian. All clients must agree to engage fully in the Christian faith-based curriculum, activities, and programming.

Do you allow MedicationAssisted Treatment (MAT)?

Yes—but the list of MAT medications is minimal and is reviewed case-by-case (e.g., Suboxone or Vivitrol). On-site psychiatry and detox are not available.

Assessment & Admission Process

Can I be admitted on the same day as my assessment?

Not very often, but it depends on funding, bed availability, and assessment. Admission Coordinators will guide you through scheduling intake. 

Donation & Volunteering

Who do I contact about a recent financial gift?

What donations are accepted?
  • Clothing (new or gently used; men's only clothing).
  • Vehicles (Cars for Recovery) may support client needs and program operations.

How can I volunteer?

Opportunities include mentoring, events, woodshop, and other opportunities.
